Following his impressive debut outing in a 'slicks and wings' car, Matt Parry showed that he could be a force to reckon with in Formula Renault when he finally graduates from karting.

The 15-year old joined the FRenault BARC's final official pre-season test at Silverstone, and ran comfortably inside the top ten, despite never having driven an aero-dependent car at the home of British motorsport before.

Glorious sunshine provided ideal conditions for the 16 drivers taking part in the morning session on the 1.64-mile National circuit and, while former kart racers-turned-FRenault converts Mitchell Hale, Joseph Reilly and Alice Powell all posted strong times early on, Matt featured among the leading runners on his latest outing with Antel Motorsport.

It was a similar story after the lunch break, with Matt again looking quick ahead of the season-opener at Brands Hatch on 17-18 April. The Welsh-born youngster won't be racing at the Kent venue, however, as the event coincides with round two of the Super 1 karting series - Matt's principal focus for 2010, along with his impending GCSE exams. The test, though, does provide encouragement for any future race plans later in the season.
