Having already created a stir with his performance in a Formula Ford test, Matt Parry has awakened interest amongst Formula Renault teams following his maiden outing with Antel Motorsport.

The reigning Formula Kart Stars Junior Rotax champion received his first taste of 'slicks and wings' action when he joined FRenault BARC outfit Antel at Brands Hatch, and his first day performance far exceeded the expectations of either the team or its competitors present at the Kent circuit.

Matt was testing alongside a far more experienced team-mate, FBMW Americas champion Gabby Chaves, and was only a second off the American's chart-topping lap time at the end of the day. Chaves later revealed that he was due to enter the Italian F3 Championship with Eurointernational, the team that took him to a 100 per cent podium record in 2009.

"We were over the moon with how Matt performed throughout the day," Antel team principal Brett Parris commented, "His pace by the end was exceptional considering his lack of experience, and I am confident that he would be a frontrunner in the BARC Formula Renault series straight away. His maturity and progression rate confirmed to us what a fantastic breeding ground British karting is."

Antel has expressed an interest in running Matt for the entire FRenault BARC campaign, but the 15-year old is likely to limit his outings to ensure that he can concentrate fully on his forthcoming GCSE exams. Further test sessions remain a possibility, however, with a potential race debut on the schedule for the end of the year.
