RARE RETIREMENT CUTS SPA SHORT


Matt Parry isn't familiar with mid-race retirements so, when one occurs in the first quarter of the season's blue rivand event, it is even harder to accept.

The young Briton was in the midst of a charging recovery drive entering hour six of the Total 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps when his Motorsport Aston Martin snapped violently left at Stavelot corner, pitching itself and its unwitting driver into heavy rear-end contact with the tyre wall.

Stationary while he both assessed the level of damage and refired the #62 machine, Parry was eventually able to return to the pits but, after extensive efforts to repair the car, R-Motorsport pulled the shutters down and reluctantly accepted its retirement.
